Recital Performance Information

Recital Dates: Saturday, May 20 and Sunday, May 21.

Recital Location: Groton-Dunstable Performing Arts Center in Groton, MA.

RECITAL DAY:

We have updated drop-off and pick-up procedures for all dancers during recital weekend. Dancers will need to be dropped off and picked-up at the stage door of the recital venue – not the through the front door.

 DANCER CALL TIME:

Please bring your dancer to the backstage area no later than 45 minutes prior to the start of your dancer’s show. The call time for each performance is listed below:

11:45am – for the Saturday, 12:30PM show
4:45pm – for the Saturday, 5:30PM show
10:15am – for the Sunday, 11AM show

DANCER DROP-OFF:

When dropping your dancer off backstage, they should be dressed and ready for their first number, hair and make-up ready. We would love if everyone could hang their costumes on individual hangers. Please make sure everything is labeled with your dancer’s name (inside dance shoes and inside costume labels). After leaving your child with his/her dance bag and costumes, all dancers will stay backstage for the remainder of the performance. Each class will have a CSDA staff member, parent volunteer or class assistant assigned to help change, supervise and entertain the dancers. No dancers are allowed in the auditorium during show time. Children will not be dismissed from the backstage area until after the show - please do not ask for exceptions.  This is for your child’s safety - we need to keep track of all our performers and keep everyone safe.

WHAT CAN MY DANCER BRING TO THE RECITAL PERFORMANCE?

Please do not send snacks with your dancer unless absolutely necessary – as we have dancers with severe allergies. If your child has a food allergy, please let us know. We keep our shows fairly short and there will be no intermission for any show. We will be providing activities with some coloring and stickers for younger dancers. If possible, we ask that dancers please refrain from bringing cellphones or other electronics backstage so they do not get lost or misplaced.

Showtime:
The auditorium doors will open approximately 30 minutes before the show. As a reminder, all dancers will be backstage during the entire show - our CSDA staff, volunteers and assistants will be handling everything they need from changing costumes to lining them up for their dances. Please note: If you arrive late to the performance, an usher will help you to your seat at an appropriate time.  Walking down the aisle to your seat can be dangerous and interrupts the audience’s view.

DANCER PICK-UP (AT THE END OF THE SHOW):

Dancers will be dismissed from the same stage door that they were dropped off at. Dancers will not be picked up on the recital stage as in year’s past. All parents must exit the building and return to the stage door to pick up your dancer. Please be patient with us during pick-up time as we will have a lot of dancers that need to be dismissed. We will make sure your dancer has their costumes/dance bag for pick-up once they show is completed. Please be sure to notify us in advance if someone other than the dancer’s parent will be picking them up from the recital performance.

RECITAL HAIR, MAKE-UP AND ACCESSORIES:

Please have your dancers’ hair and make-up performance ready when arriving at recital. All dancers need to have their hair pulled up, back and away from their face in a bun.  If your class has a hat or is in an acro dance, a lower bun would be preferred (at the nape of the neck). No fingernail polish, toe nail polish or jewelry is allowed. Please remove all nail polish and any jewelry/accessories before the show.

Helpful Recital Hair Accessories:

  • Don't stress! We have many helpful staff, assistants, dancers and dance moms available to help with hair! Just ask us!

  • All headpieces go on the right side of the dancer’s head unless otherwise noted at dress rehearsal. We can pin them in, if you need help!

  • Bobby Pins - the same color as your dancer’s hair

  • Hairspray - the more the better!

  • Brush/Comb

  • Hair Net - the same color as your dancer’s hair

  • Optional: Bun Maker - there are many brands, sizes and colors at stores like Target, CVS, Walgreens etc. This produces a perfect dancer bun! If you are unfamiliar with how these work, please come to dress rehearsal or recital early and one of our staff or assistants will gladly help you with your dancers hair. Also there are many hair tutorials online - here is one that we like :: Bun Maker Tutorial

  • Please avoid adding glitter/glitter gel to your dancer’s hair - it reflects brightly on stage and gets on costumes while changing.

Suggested Make-Up:

  • For dancers ages 3 - 6 make-up is not required, but if you would like to use the following guidelines, you can.

  • For dancers ages 6 and over - here are a few guidelines to follow.

  • Blush: A bright/rosy cheek will help dancers not look washed out on stage. We love this E.L.F. brand blush in the color “Pink”

  • Eye Shadow: We suggest using browns and neutrals for eye shadow. If you are unsure what to use - we like the Maybelline brand: Designer Chocolates. The colors are perfect for the stage and they tell you where to place it (lid, crease etc).

  • Please avoid using blue eye shadow or shadows with a lot of glitter.

  • Mascara: Any brand will do - especially for dancers with blonde hair, mascara will help your eyes stand out. Also, eye liner/pencil for light eyebrows if needed.

  • Foundation: Typically, our older dancers will wear foundation to even out skin tones.

  • Lipstick: We love Maybelline SuperStay Ink Crayon (suggested color "Hustle In Heels").Any bright red lip/gloss will do the trick!

NO ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT ALLOWED at the Recital: No videos cameras, digital cameras, or film cameras, cell phones, iPads, tablets etc. will be allowed to be used in the auditorium during recital. Every year we have numerous complaints from audience members that these rules have been disregarded. The auditorium management and myself must enforce U.S. Copyright and Safety Laws.  Please don’t bring electronic equipment into the auditorium; if you are caught using a recording or photography device our technical director and/or ushers will confiscate the device until the end of the show. A professional video will be taken of all shows and all families will receive a digital download of their dancer’s primary performance, per your recital package.

2023 Dress Rehearsal & Picture Day

Picture Day is going to be the same day and location as Dress Rehearsal to make everything easy! When you open the dress rehearsal schedule (see button below) you will find a photo of your dancer’s costume, their weekly class day/time and a class roster so you can be sure you come for the correct time. Your rehearsal time is listed in red on the schedule (above their costume photo) this is the time they will be onstage. Please arrive for your dancers first scheduled time about 15-20 minutes early, dressed and ready in their first costume.

Dress Rehearsal & Picture Day Date: Saturday, May 13

Dress Rehearsal & Picture Day Location:  Groton-Dunstable Performing Arts Center | 344 Main Street, Groton, MA – please come through the main entrance of the school, the auditorium is the first door on your left (blue door). We will collect all dancers for their number

Dress Rehearsal Information:

All dancers that are participating in the recital will need to come to dress rehearsal on Saturday, May 13. Dress rehearsal is held at the Groton-Dunstable Performing Arts Center, which is our recital performance venue. Each class will get time on-stage with their instructor to practice the number in their recital costume. If your dancer is in more than one number, time will be given to change in between numbers. We have bathrooms and designated areas for dancers to change.

Picture Day Information:

Please bring your dancer to the auditorium FIRST for their onstage dress rehearsal. Your dancer will rehearse their number onstage and then be taken directly to the photography set (located in the cafeteria of the venue) to take their class group photo. After the group photo has been taken, individual photos will be taken in that costume and dancers will change for their next routine. If it is your last or only number of the day you are free to leave. Our photographer has made some changes this year with no order forms to fill out - each dancer/family will get a unique QR code assigned to them (and emailed) and you can purchase them directly from the site.

***If your dancer is in multiple numbers, we have tried our best to space out the routines so that you can take individual photos during your class time slot. However, we will need your dancer to be ready in their next costume, by their schedule’s rehearsal time. Please note – you can get individual photographs taken, in any costume, at any point during the day. You do not need to rush individual/sibling photos – the photographer will be there until 8PM and can take photos at any point during the day.

A lunch break will be taken from 1pm – 1:30pm. No photos will be taken during that time.

What Should You Bring To Dress Rehearsal?: Please bring all your dance costumes, tights and dance shoes for each routine/class your dancer is in. Your child must be brought to the auditorium completely dressed and ready for their first number as listed in the dress rehearsal schedule. If your dancer is in more than one number, please have ALL of their other costumes and also a dance bag with all of their dance shoes. Please label all items with your dancer’s name! We know that you may have questions about costumes and headpieces. We will answer all these questions during dress rehearsal. Please be aware that no food or drink will be allowed in the auditorium at any time. Video cameras or any recording devices are prohibited.  Pictures may be taken with a camera—by parents only. A CSDA staff member/teacher will indicate when photography can be taken during rehearsal.

2023 Recital Costs

Associated Performance Costs:

Recital Costumes: We require dancers to purchase one dance costume for each class. The only class exception is our Tap/Ballet Combo classes - they will have two costumes. During the month of November, we require a $45 costume deposit to secure their costume for recital. The remaining balance of the costume deposit is due in January when we return from our holiday break. If you pay your initial costume deposit, you are required to pay the full remaining costume balance – we cannot make any exceptions. We strive to keep costume prices as low as possible for each dancer. In general the costume totals are between $80-$125 per costume.

**New for this season** Tights With Costume

In addition to our recital costume(s) fee, dancers will also have a tight(s) fee. Students will have either one or two pairs of tights added to your Portal. This cost will be added on to your January fees - alongside your costume balance - the cost will be $15 (per dancer) for one pair or $25 (per dancer) if they need two pairs. This will guarantee your dancer has the correct size, color and style of tights that is needed for their recital costume. Parent, this means you do not have to order or purchase new tights for the recital - they will come with your costume!

Tights are very much a part of your dancers costume, and in years past, they have been a separate item that dancers/parents need to purchase. This year, we will include them to simplify our recital costuming. Most dancers will receive our bodywrapper tights. If your dancer takes a ballet class they will also receive pink tights. Our Kidzdance Preschool classes will receive pink tights only.

Exception: Any student in a class labeled Intermediate, Int/Adv or Advanced (or are a current Dance Company member) will not have this added fee with their costumes or receive any tights. If your dancer is in one of these classes but would like to purchase tights; we still have them available behind the desk for purchase. These classes may also need additional tights such as fishnets or pink seamed tights. The costume book will contain further details about tight selections for all groups.

Recital Tickets:
Recital tickets will go on sale on Friday, April 28. Each family member and/or audience member must purchase a ticket to view the performance. After that date, recital tickets will remain on sale until the performance dates. We use an online recital ticketing service for our recital tickets. Families will be able to purchase their recital tickets directly from their phones, laptops and tablets. More information about recital tickets will be sent out closer to that date.

Recital Package
We require any dancer participating in our recital to pay a one-time $75 recital package fee per dancer or $125 for multiple dancers (families). This fee will be posted in March of 2023 and must be paid with March tuition.

With this fee all dancers receive:

  • One (1), digital download of the dancers primary recital performance. If a dancer is in more than one show, you may purchase other performance times. USB’s can also be purchased for each recital performance, if desired.

  • One (1) recital t-shirt. Each year we design a unique t-shirt that is themed for our recital performance. Family pricing will receive one shirt, per dancer.

  • This also includes our recital rehearsal fee. This covers the cost our on-stage dress rehearsal/performance and helps to keep our recital ticket prices from increasing substantially.
